Yukon Brewing Co., a microbrewery in Whitehorse, Yukon, has innovated beer making by partnering with a local roaster. This is how the Midnight Sun Espresso Stout was born! Recipient of numerous awards, it has, among other things, been rated as one of the best three stouts in the country at the 2012 Canadian Brewing Awards.
Its velvety texture is the result of using eight different malts to brew it, including oats and espresso grains. This refreshing stout doesn’t go unnoticed. It has a coffee flavour, a roasted nose with hints of chocolate and dark coffee, and a touch of anise. Finally, its bitterness is a delight for those who love dark beer.
This ale, retailing for $3.45 per 341 ml bottle, pairs well with a duck hot dog or with dark beer and honey spareribs. If you really want to retain the original character of this stout and do something different, Yukon Brewing Co. even suggests sipping on the Midnight Sun Espresso Stout at breakfast!
