Audi introduced the A7 Sportback in 2012, and with a 300-horsepower supercharged V6 it didn’t really need more power. It got more power anyway in 2013, when Audi introduced the S7 Sportback with a 420-horsepower twin-turbo V8.
Audi has just introduced a third variation based on the A7 platform, and this one is for truly power-hungry drivers. Like the S7, the 2014 Audi RS7 Sportback uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, but it is tuned to produce an astounding 560 horsepower.
The RS7 is mostly assembled in Audi’s main factory in Neckarsulm, Germany, before moving to a smaller plant where final assembly is done by hand.
Unique styling touches include a front bumper with large air intakes, a gloss-black honeycomb grille, flared side sills and RS7 badges. Adaptive air suspension is standard and Dynamic Ride Control suspension is optional.
The RS7 arrives in October and is expected to cost about $125,000.
