Introduced at the Geneva auto show earlier this year, the 2014 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo adds a five-door hatch to the 3 Series line up, which already includes a convertible, a coupe, a sedan, a wagon and a hybrid model.
Starting at $48,990, the 3 Series GT is built on an entirely new platform. Three cosmetic versions are available: Sport, Modern and M Sport, each with different exterior and interior trim.
Inside there is a strong 3 Series resemblance, but seating is taller offering a better forward view. The new GT promises sedan-like driving dynamics and performance but with storage space that rivals the BMW X3 SUV.
A 2.0-litre, 241-hp turbocharged inline four and a 3.0-litre, 300-hp turbocharged inline six are available. An eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel-drive are standard.
With the 3 Series Gran Turismo BMW has done a stellar job of marrying a sporty, sedan-like attitude with SUV-like practicality.
