Although the late 1960s and early 1970s are known to be the golden years of muscle cars, we are currently experiencing the true muscle car era. Dodge is flexing its muscles with the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, and its biceps have ripped its T-shirt to shreds.
Horsepower numbers have never been as high as they are today, and the Hellcat’s 6.2-litre supercharged Hemi V8 takes the muscle car crown with a tire-shredding 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, all for just $63,995.
Muscle cars of yesteryear were loud, boisterous beasts that did all of their hard work in a straight line. But when it came to cornering and braking you needed faith and a strong heart.
The Hellcat is loud and boisterous, and hellishly fast, yet it is also a surprisingly competent handler, with bolstered suspension and huge Brembo brakes. Just make sure you don’t have a heart condition before stepping inside.
