There are dream cars and there are supercars. And then there’s the McLaren P1. For a cool $1.25 million you can enjoy the P1, and its astounding 903 horsepower, produced by a 3.8-litre, twin-turbo V8 in conjunction with an electric motor. In essence, the P1 is a hybrid. A carbon-fibre monocoque chassis guarantees ultra-light weight.
With the P1, McLaren wants drivers who don’t have an F1 ride—even though they could probably afford one—to experience F1 performance nonetheless. Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h takes just 2.8 seconds, and if you leave your foot on the floor, you’ll reach 300 km/h in 17 seconds, five seconds quicker than the McLaren F1 race car.
The P1 epitomizes everything that has garnered the renowned race team 182 race wins, 12 driver’s championships and eight constructor’s championships.
Only 375 P1s will be produced, and they are reportedly all spoken for, so this supercar will continue to remain a dream car for most.
