Renowned fashion brand Ralph Lauren is making quite the entrance into the world of smart clothing. Unveiled with great fanfare at the US Tennis Open, the Polo Tech shirt cleverly combines the best of design, fabric and techno-gadgetry.
The brand behind the polo player logo is breaking new ground with Polo Tech: a high-tech, body-molding shirt made for athletes, equipped with gyroscopes and accelerometers to measure heart rate, intensity of movement and more. Biometric sensors are woven directly into the fabric of the shirt, which will be available in 2015.
The technology was designed by Canadian firm OMSignal. Hooking the shirt up to a smartphone provides a unique means of collecting valuable information on training and performance progress.
Marcos Giron, 452nd international ATP player and one of the best junior players, wore the shirt during training at the last US Open.
