Ubisoft has launched the very well-received Far Cry 3 ($59.99, for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360), a first-person shooter game combining action, adventure and infiltration in a gigantic open-world backdrop.
The player becomes the character of Jason Brody, an ordinary American man whose vacation on a tropical archipelago is abruptly put to an end by Vaas, the leader of a local gang who takes Jason and his friends prisoners. After his escape, Jason must free them, but in the process winds up getting caught in a war between the two rival Rook Islands gangs.
With little downtime between missions related to the main pursuit and secondary quests, this fast-paced game will keep players on their toes. You’ll find the missions well-crafted and the music evocative—hats off for using Make It Bun Dem by Skrillex and Damian Marley, for a mission where Jason must burn cannabis fields with a flamethrower. This song is pure genius! Finally, the game is challenging enough without ever becoming frustrating.
Far Cry 3 is without a doubt the game I most enjoyed playing this year.
